Those skilled in the art of war have a saying:
‘I dare not act as host,
but would rather be the guest.
I dare not advance an inch,
but would rather retreat a foot.’
This is called moving forward without moving,
rolling up sleeves without baring an arm,
charging forward without an enemy,
capturing without wielding weapons.
There is no greater misfortune
than to take the enemy lightly.
To take them lightly is to nearly lose
what I hold most dear.
Thus, when opposing forces meet as equals,
the one who grieves will prevail.
