Heaven is eternal; earth is everlasting.
How can they endure for so long?
Because they do not live for themselves.
Thus, they achieve lasting life.

The sage steps behind, and finds herself ahead.
She sets herself aside, and so her self is preserved.

Is it not because she seeks no self of her own,
that her self is fulfilled?
