One who stands on tiptoes is not steady.
One who takes long strides cannot maintain the pace.
One who displays themselves does not shine.
One who justifies themselves is not distinguished.
One who boasts of their deeds achieves nothing of worth.
One who praises themselves does not endure.
Such ways are like leftover food and useless growth;
all things turn from them in distaste.
Therefore, one who walks in the Way
does not abide in such things.
