Look for it, but it cannot be seen:
it is called invisible.
Listen for it, but it cannot be heard:
it is called soundless.
Reach for it, but it cannot be held:
it is called intangible.
These three defy definition,
merging into one.
Above it, there is no light;
below it, no darkness.
An endless thread, beyond description,
returning always to nothingness.
It is the form of the formless,
the image of the imageless:
the elusive and indistinct.
Face it, and you see no beginning.
Follow it, and you find no end.
By holding to the ancient Way
you can master the world of now.
To know this ancient beginning
is the thread of the Way.
