The Way gave birth to One;
One gave birth to Two;
Two gave birth to Three;
Three gave birth to the ten thousand things.
The ten thousand things carry Yin and embrace Yang,
blending their vital breath to create harmony.

What most people dislike:
to be orphaned, lacking, and unworthy,
the kings and lords take as their titles.

So it is:
sometimes loss becomes gain;
sometimes gain becomes loss.

What others teach, I also teach:
Those who use force will not die a natural death.
This will be the foundation of my teaching.
